Lots of dancers auditioned Saturday for the chance to perform onstage in the Great Russian Nutcracker with the Moscow Ballet.  It’s a one night only show at the Peabody Opera House, Dec. 8 at 5pm.

Moscow Ballet’s Audition Director Carolina Siscanu said there were so many talented dancers that it was very had to make a selection.  At the end of the audition, dancers were notified of their role in the show.  Dancers had to be between the ages of 7 to 16 years-old, have at least one year of ballet training, dress in dance attire and have Pointe shoes.

The experience of working and performing with professional ballerinas is often a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for aspiring dancers.

“We always get an amazing turn out of talented and dedicated students from all over the St. Louis and Illinois areas,” said Barbara Craig with Dance Project St. Louis.  “The students work so hard and it’s the best way for dancers to understand both the discipline and fun involved in a professional ballet production.”

The selected dancers for the show will practice every Sunday til performance night, Dec. 8.  This year for the first time the students will also perform at the Festival of Lights downtown on Nov. 22nd as well.
