Peabody Opera House is proud to host the third annual “Ozzie & Friends Concert – A Benefit for PGA REACH,” featuring the iconic R&B vocal group Boyz II Men, Nikko Smith, and special guest comedian Gary Mule Deer.
Lineup for the event curated by Hall of Fame Shortstop Ozzie Smith to Help Keep St. Louis Youth in School.
As the best-selling R&B group of all time – with an astounding 64 million albums sold – Boyz II Men have won four Grammy Awards, nine American Music Awards, nine Soul Train Awards, three Billboard Music Awards and a 2011 MOBO Award for outstanding Contribution to Music. Having been named “Music Artist of the Year” at the Casino Entertainment Awards and honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the group’s catalogue includes hits such as “End of the Road,” “I’ll Make Love to You,” “One Sweet Day,” “Motownphilly” and many more. In addition to touring the globe, Boyz II Men currently has a residency at The Mirage in Las Vegas and recently released an album, “Collide,” filled with new material.
Nikko Smith continues to make St. Louis proud with his musical talents and will display the abilities that were seen across the country as a finalist in the 2005 Season of American Idol.
Deer, meanwhile, has made over 350 television appearances alongside such names as Jay Leno, David Letterman, Steve Martin and Jeff Foxworthy. For the last five decades, Deer has entertained regularly from Las Vegas and Atlantic City to the Grand Ole Opry and Carnegie Hall, sharing the stage with the likes of Merle Haggard, Ray Charles, Reba McEntire, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Johnny Mathis, Vince Gill and the Zac Brown Band.
All proceeds from the “Ozzie and Friends Concert” will directly benefit the PGA REACH (Recreation, Education, Awareness, Community, and Health) initiative, helping keep St. Louis-area youths in school. Founded locally by the Gateway PGA, the PGA of America, and the St. Louis golfing community, Gateway PGA REACH has partnered with the Boys & Girls Club, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri, Hope Education, and Urban K-Life to help fill idle time for at-risk youth, improving their health, wellness and career prospects. Within those partner programs, PGA REACH also has a larger goal of developing a multi-use recreational and educational golf facility in North St. Louis in time for the 100th PGA Championship in August 2018 at Bellerive Country Club.
“PGA REACH is a cause that’s near and dear to my heart,” said Smith, who serves as the president of the Gateway PGA REACH Foundation. “Youths spend more than 80 percent of their waking hours outside of the classroom. Since 2013, we have committed over $250,000 towards programs and partners that fill idle time of our local youth to measurably improve classroom attendance and success. Building a multi-use facility in such close proximity to those partners will be a game changer for the North St Louis Community.”
